Are Bald Men More Attractive?

Many theories suggest that male pattern baldness results from sexual selection. Many suggest that bald men are more virile or sexually active than men with full heads of hair. Although there is yet to be comprehensive evidence either way scientists have agreed that the levels of testosterone and DHT have a significant influence in hair loss.

Many primate species also experience baldness after puberty. In some species the male will encourage frontal hair loss and it appears that frontal balding conveys increased status and maturity to the social group. In humans the response to baldness is extremely variable. Although widely acceptable for men it can be a point of stigma for women.

Fortunately the advancement in hair replacement techniques has made it possible to manage the condition to a certain extent and recover a more socially acceptable head of hair. Here is a look at a number of causes of hair loss.

Trichotillomania

Trichotillomania occurs when the person suffering from the condition compulsively pulls out their own hair. It is classified as an impulse control disorder in which the person pulls out their own hair. This can be the hair on their head, eyebrows, eyelashes, facial hair, nose hair, pubic hair and other body hair. This typically results in noticeable bald patches.

Typically the condition begins in people as young as twelve and it has been recognised in people as old as seventy. In this type of baldness the hairs are not absent from the scalp but are instead broken and not visible. This suggests that they can grow back if they are given the opportunity.

Radiation

Radiation can cause hair loss. Typical examples of this are people that receive radiation therapy for the treatment of cancer. Typically the hair at the point where the treatment is administered can become bald. The area can also become irritated but it can be a type of hair loss that will eventually replenish itself. After treatment the affected area can recover and achieve normal levels of hair growth.

Fungal infection

Some fungal infections can result in massive cases of hair loss. Caused by contact with a yeast or fungus this type of baldness can result in itching that develops to patches of hair loss. The affected area can turn red and experience weeping before losing hair. In this case the hair loss is not permanent as the follicles still exist to produce the hair. As a result when the infection is treated the hair is likely to grow back. This type of hair loss is common in children.

Autoimmune disorder

Alopecia areata is a type of hair loss that causes baldness in patches of hair. Also known as ’spot baldness’ it can affect just one area of the body or in some cases every hair on the entire body. It usually affects the scalp and causes patches of baldness.

The spots of baldness may be slightly tender and it may tingle. In a very small number of cases it spreads to affect the whole of the scalp. It occurs in both men and women. It is not contagious but there are suggestions that it is hereditary. Many people that have alopecia areata have relatives that suffer from autoimmune disorders.

Hypothyroidism

Hypothyroidism is a disease in which the sufferer experiences an insufficient production of the thyroid hormone by the thyroid gland. This can result in hair loss. The thyroid hormone is involved in an enormous range of the body’s functions therefore if it falls out of balance it can result in a wide variety of symptoms. The hair loss that it causes often occurs at the front part of the scalp and the outer edge of the eyebrows.

Vitamins to Regrow Hair

Hair care assumes increasing importance as men age. Hair fall, gradual lessening in hair regrowth, conditions like Androgenetic Alopecia etc, are noticed with advancing age, especially in the period between 18-35 years. The body’s natural hair regeneration fails to keep up with the quantum of hair loss. As a result receding hairlines, widows peaks, bald patches are noticed more and more.

It is but natural to resort to hair regrow products and vitamins to regrow hair. The shop shelves stock a lot of products to address male hair loss. While some are available in topical solution form, some are available as pills. Many of these products available on prescription as well as over the counter come with their own side effects.

Hair loss is predominantly caused by Androgenetic Alopecia, a condition characterized by abnormal quantities of Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the scalp. 5-Alpha Reductase, a naturally produced enzyme in the body processes testosterone in to DHT. DHT blockers address this issue and help control hair loss due to DHT.

Vitamins to regrow hair and stimulate hair production and follicle regeneration are present in some hair regrowth products that combine them with DHT blockers.

For Example, Ingredients that perform these functions in a preferred hair regrowth product Procerin include Saw Palmetto, Magnesium, Zinc Sulfate, Vitamin B-6, Pyroxidine 5mg, CJ-11 Factor, CJ-9 Factor, and a proprietary blend of Gotu Kola, Nettles, Pumpkin seed meal, Siberian Ginseng, Yohimbe, Muira Puma Root and Uwa Ursi. DHT blockers, natural herbs and minerals and vitamins are the main ingredients here.

Procerin is an all-natural product with no side effects and is available in both pill and solution form. It can be applied daily and starts showing results within two months from application, in cases within weeks.

Hair loss could be owing to many reasons ranging from genetic, dietary, medical and lifestyles. Vitamins that regrow hair are most effective when the body is still in the phase of producing hair/regenerating hair. Under such a circumstance, these vitamins and supplements help accelerate the process and also block the production of those enzymes eventually causing hair loss and male pattern baldness.

Valuable Lesson Learnt; Rewards Earned With Time

More than men, women had a problem with the way their hair looked, especially since every feature in their body mattered more. Sara was a corporate executive who worked in a multi national company earning thousands of dollars every month. She had to work real hard to get to where she was today, and she knew it was all because of her ability to be professional and work with perfection. She also took care of her body, working out regularly and making sure to eat the right kind of food. There were days when she skipped lunch because she had a heavy breakfast of eggs, cereal and juice. But there were days, when she would go out for lunch with a client and go all out without any control. These would be when she would beat herself about her inability to control her eating habits when eating at restaurants. She was nearing 40 and one day while getting ready for office, she noticed that her forehead seemed to have become bigger. This was possible only if her hairline was receding. She could not believe her eyes and almost fainted when she realized it was indeed true. But, how could it be? She wondered. She used the best hair products to style her hair everyday.

Sara was the kind who believed that office was where one was absolutely professional, she wore a suit to work and pulled her hair into a tight knot at the crown. Even though this made her look serious and stern, she liked this look of hers. She used liberal amounts of hair spray to prevent strands from sneaking out and applied gel to make sure it stayed that way throughout the day. In spite of using these hair products, she was facing hair loss. She didn’t know what to do, or how to solve this problem.

She went to office, but could not concentrate on work as this issue was eating her up. She finally consulted a hair expert who suggested she try a different hair style for a few days and see if there was any change. It took all her will power to not tie her hair up, and to let it flow over her shoulders. All her colleagues at work complimented her on the new look, but only she knew the main reason behind the same. She also began using the hair care product, Scalp med, which was made using natural extracts. It was a cream she applied religiously every day and prayed that hair would stop falling and resume growing.

After about 7months, while once again preparing for her work day, she was combing her hair and noticed a few new strands that had grown in the front. Her joy knew no bounds and she was so thankful to the scalp med hair product. However, this did not mean she could stop using it, or goes back to tying her hair up. She would have to continue to let her hair down, and apply the cream, but not as much as earlier for increased hair growth. Like Sara, there are many who face the same problem, so for them there are products like Scalp med and hair genesis available in the market made of natural vegetable and fruit extracts.

All it takes is a little effort and patience to watch our hair grow back, along with this we need to make certain changes in our lifestyle as well.
